You are welcome to participate in this program regardless of whether you meet the State of Michigan’s degree requirement. We understand that individuals enroll for a variety of reasons, and not all participants are pursuing licensure. Attention: If you do not meet the degree requirement but HAVE COMPLETED or WILL COMPLETE the Nursing Home Administration program before April 2026, you are eligible to complete the NAB exams and MI licensing process before the new requirements take effect.

Are there any other educational requirements in addition to a degree? Yes, an applicant for licensure in MI needs to complete an approved course of instruction in nursing home administration. This program, Nursing Home Administration, is an approved course of instruction. Once this course is completed, you are then eligible to take the CORE and LOS examinations administered through the National Association of Long-Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB). The State of Michigan will verify that you passed the examinations and met all other requirements before issuing you a license. However, it is always better to register early!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Do I need to buy books or anything else? What do I need to attend the program?

What is your attendance policy? There are 4 units in the program. Each unit has 6 sessions, for a total of 24 sessions in the program. You are permitted to miss 2 of the 24 sessions without penalty or additional work required. You may miss up to 2 additional sessions, though you may not miss more than 2 sessions in any one unit, and will need to complete additional assignments to demonstrate that you understand the materials from those missed sessions. After that, you will need to repeat units in order to earn the certificate and to be eligible to sit for the licensure exam.

You do not need to buy books. All materials will be provided to you during the program. You are required to use a computer, laptop, or tablet during the program . You will be using several tools simultaneously (e.g., Zoom, PowerPoint or Adobe PDF viewer, survey software, etc.). Additionally, all materials are digital and they are easier to interact with on a bigger screen. Is this class offered online or in-person? This course is offered live, online. You will log into a web conferencing platform to participate in the program. You will interact with the instructor, the producer, and your fellow participants. The instructor is focused on delivering content to you in an engaging way. The producer is focused on helping you and the instructor with all technical aspects of the class as well as engaging with you using virtual tools, like Chat. *If you haven’t used Zoom before, we will walk you through how to log in and use the Zoom tools before you start your first session. All past participants have found that Zoom is very easy to use on their devices. Can I transfer into your program if I have started somewhere else? You are welcome to participate in our program. However, we cannot accept hours completed at another institution.

Is the class for Michigan licensing only or does it apply to other states?

This program is for Michigan licensing only. Some participants that live near the Michigan border do attend and then work in a MI facility once licensed. How much homework is there? Are there any tests? Homework and tests are not currently part of the curriculum of the program. We do recommend that you study the materials each week as there is a large volume of knowledge covered on the NHA certification exams.
