Opportunities and Expectations for Leadership
Actively engage in strategic initiatives to generate new resources to support the Broad College. The achievement of the Broad College’s strategic aspirations will be enhanced by generating additional funding sources as well as expanding the diversity of revenue streams for the college (e.g., income-based programs, research grants, study abroad initiatives, and corporate partnerships). Good progress has been made over the years in generating new donors and donations (the current endowment is $250 million and annual giving for FY2023 was $9,250,230.81). The next dean will be expected to devote significant time and energy to furthering Broad’s culture of philanthropy, building partnerships, and raising new funds. There are particular opportunities for success here, such as the continued cultivation of the worldwide network of 86,715 alums from all of the college’s programs. In attaining this objective, the dean is supported by development professionals dedicated to the Broad College. As one of Michigan State’s “crown jewels,” the Broad College – led by its dean – will assume a prominent role in the university’s forthcoming capital campaign. Foster a culture of shared values and enthusiastic engagement. Broad is blessed with an outstanding world-class faculty, highly professional administrators, a dedicated staff, exceptional students, and proud alums. Each of these constituent groups is eager to contribute and add value to Broad’s continued progress toward higher levels of national and international prominence in business education. The new dean should further this support by focusing on continuing a strong professional alignment with – and personal commitment to – the college’s success and culture of collaboration. To accomplish this, the dean should be highly visible, genuinely engaged, inclusive, and sincere in their eagerness to build a high-performing and respectful work environment. The new dean should also prioritize a high level of transparency, integrity, and ethical business practices that form the cornerstone of Broad’s culture and brand. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The college’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are inseparable from its academic mission. The new dean must have a demonstrated commitment to foster and provide a sensitive, inclusive, equitable, respectful, and supportive environment for all students, faculty, administrators, staff, and alums to achieve true collaborative excellence.
