• Direct-admission-into-business undergraduate scholarships to grow our national reputation and recruit top students • Scholarships to recruit a robust and diverse student body and ensure these students can access and take advantage of the Broad experience • MBA and master’s program scholarships to support the career growth of adult learners through key graduate programs GROW THE BROAD BRAND REPUTATION AND TELL OUR STORY To realize our strategic vision to be a top-tier business school, it is imperative that the Broad College brand is recognized nationally and internationally. Although we have made progress over the last few years in building our physical infrastructure, developing market- leading programs, and improving our rankings, our name recognition outside the Midwest lags most of our Big Ten peers, mainly because we lacked the wherewithal to invest in marketing and brand-building. Entrepreneurship and ethics are key examples of areas we’ve identified as opportunities for growth and made progress. Employers and
our corporate partners have made it clear they are prioritizing these areas for their talent needs, and the next generation of students are also gravitating toward the same areas. The Broad College is driven to not only match but exceed employers’ and students’ desires and expectations with programmatic excellence in these and other areas of business, but that is not enough — we must be known for this excellence. Hence, we seek to do the following: • Establish the Broad College as a leader in the areas of entrepreneurship and ethics through support of the Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Broad College Center for Ethical and Socially Responsible Leadership • Endow a comprehensive, dynamic and sustainable marketing, branding and communications program within the Broad College by tripling our current MarCom budget and capacity • Invest in a sustainable and dynamic alumni relations and engagement program to grow our capacity to build lifelong strategic partnerships and engagement with our alumni
whole student experience, inside and outside the classroom. In many cases, our equivalent services are limited to one to two individuals. Accordingly, we seek to add: • 20–25 new endowed program staff positions and Broad students in the areas of experiential learning, education abroad; communication and soft skills training; and career services • Education abroad support for scholarships, program programmatic investment to grow our support for all development and personnel to ensure all students have a global experience while at Broad • Expand Broad 360 engagement and experiential learning program to engage every Broad undergraduate student and maximize their Broad experience inside and outside the classroom EXPAND STUDENT ACCESS THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS To attract, retain and graduate a diverse cohort of high-caliber students with little to no debt upon graduation, the Broad College must offer a robust scholarship portfolio. The cost of obtaining a degree plays a large role in the choice of colleges for students everywhere and, given the continued divestment by the State in higher education, the cost of an MSU degree is disproportionately higher than many of our Big Ten peers. Thus, every year many highly motivated, capable students with great potential do not walk through our doors, simply due to our inability to adequately relieve their financial burden. Accordingly, we seek to provide the following targeted scholarships:
STRATEGIC OPPORTUNITIES
• 36 new named endowed faculty chairs/professorships to provide endowment support for all research-active tenured faculty members, enabling us to recruit, retain and invest in innovative leaders, scholars and teachers • 20 new named endowed professors of practice to provide endowment support for full-time non-tenure-track faculty with deep industry knowledge, enabling us to attract and retain experienced subject-matter experts • Dean’s research and innovation fund to support exploration of bold new ideas for cutting-edge research, market-need based curricular programs and novel pedagogies ELEVATE THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ENSURE SUCCESS OF EACH STUDENT The suite of experiences we envision providing our students to give them the competitive edge over their peers, while making them accessible to every Broad student, requires significantly larger professional staff support than we have currently. Other top business schools have entire teams of professionals dedicated to the
grow our reputation, prepare and support our students and increase access to the Broad experience. Given our large student body and the scope of our aspirations, we know that being successful in these initiatives will require significant resources and the collective endorsement from a wide range of Spartans. Thank you for considering an investment in the Broad College to help us in one or more of these efforts and inspire others to join in this work. academic excellence. While the Broad College is already home to some of the world’s preeminent scholars and accomplished industry professionals in their respective fields, we strive to transform ourselves into the destination for top scholars and practitioners across the academy. Investing in our faculty capacity can elevate us into the highest tier of thought leadership and knowledge creation as well as directly elevate the quality of classroom impact for our students. We seek to enhance faculty excellence by adding/creating: ENHANCE EXCELLENCE AND INVEST IN FACULTY AND RESEARCH Faculty are at the heart of
To fulfill our vision for every student, grow our reputation as a leader in business education and partner with industry to successfully tackle the most critical issues facing business today and tomorrow, we have identified and offer four key areas of investment and partnership: Enhance excellence and invest in faculty and research Elevate the educational experience and ensure success of each student Expand student access through scholarships Grow the Broad brand reputation and tell our story The philanthropic investment in and impact of the Edward J. Minskoff Pavilion has enabled us to redefine and transform the physical infrastructure of the Broad College. Through overwhelming support from over 1,400 donors, we have built an inspiring home in which our faculty, students, employers and alumni come together, learn and lead. Now, it is essential that we focus on making an even larger leap forward with investments in our non- physical infrastructure — the people and programs that drive innovation,
