FAQ
QUALIFICATIONS
What are your educational requirements? Participants of all education levels have had success in our NHA program. There are no educational requirements or prerequisite classes to register for the program. Education requirements to sit for licensing exam or for an employer are separate from any University requirements.
How many people can attend each program? Should I be worried that I won’t get in? At this time, we can accommodate a large class size due to our live, online learning environment. Registrations in recent years have not reached our maximum capacity. However, it is always better to register early!
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Does this program qualify me for a license? This program meets the State of Michigan’s educational requirements for licensure. Upon successful completion of the program, you may apply for a license. The State of Michigan will match your application to the education verification that we submit directly to the State upon successful completion of this program and all of our requirements. You will then be eligible to take the CORE and LOS examinations administered through the National Association of Long- Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB). The State of Michigan will verify that you passed the examinations and met all other requirements before issuing you a license.
Do I need to buy books or anything else? What do I need to attend the program? You do not need to buy books. All materials will be provided to you during the program. You are required to use a computer, laptop, or tablet during the program. You will be using several tools simultaneously (e.g., Zoom, PowerPoint or Adobe PDF viewer, survey software, etc.). Additionally, all materials are digital and they are easier to interact with on a bigger screen. What is your attendance policy? There are 4 units in the program. There are 6 sessions per unit, for a total of 24 sessions in the program. You are permitted to miss 2 of the 24 sessions without penalty or additional work required. You may miss up to 2 additional sessions but will need to complete additional assignments to demonstrate that you understand the materials from those missed sessions. After that, you will need to repeat units in order to earn the certificate and to be eligible to sit for the licensure exam. Is this class offered online or in-person? This course is offered live, online. You will log into a web conferencing platform to participate in the program. You will interact with the instructor, the producer, and your fellow participants. The instructor is focused on delivering content to you in an engaging way. The producer is focused on helping you and the instructor with all technical aspects of the class as well as engaging with you using virtual tools, like Chat. *If you haven’t used Zoom before, we will walk you through how to log in and use the tools before you start your first session. All past participants have found that Zoom is easy to use on their devices.
Can I transfer into your program if I have started somewhere else?
You are welcome to participate in our program. However, we cannot accept hours completed at another institution at this time.
Is the class for Michigan licensing only or does it apply to other states?
This program is for Michigan licensing only. Some participants that live near the Michigan border do attend and then work in a MI facility once licensed. How much homework is there? Are there any tests? Homework and tests are not currently part of the curriculum of the program. We do recommend that you study the materials each week as there is a large volume of knowledge covered on the NHA certification exams.
